grega -- katja... where are you in your SEO education?
grega -- beginner or advanced or beyond?
grega -- are you there?????
grega -- katja, can you see my typing?
katja -- sorry- I was doing something else
katja -- I promote about 6 websites and they have all excellent ranking. Also just started working on a few new ones
katja -- I am not a total beginner- what about you?
grega -- I have several of my own webs and do SEO for other by contract
grega -- are you taking the advanced course?
katja -- no- are you?
grega -- I finished a couple of yrs ago
katja -- I have one major client and I promote all of his websites and now I got many more clients. G
grega -- I have been a SEO for 5 yrs
katja -- I was hired by that major client that I mentioned 10 months ago, he put me in front of the computer and ask me to promote his sites. I could hardly used the computer at that point
grega -- I take it your here for the keyword chat?
grega -- have you taken or are you taking the beginning class?
katja -- but now I am quite successful at SEO- let's say some ranking of the websites I am promoting in Google "Miami real estate" #1, "Miami boat rentals #1, "Miami vacation rentals" #1... many more
katja -- yes, keyword chat but nothing much seems to be happening
grega -- that’s because I’m the chat facilitator
grega -- LOL
katja -- hahaha, really? OK I will go back to my modest mode!!!
grega -- that’s ok... I like to hear what others are doing out there
katja -- how did you start with SEO- I suppose you were one of the first SEOs
grega -- yes... I guess you could say I was here in the beginning
grega -- hi chez
chezparis -- Hello
grega -- ready to get started?
katja -- yes
grega -- sorry... I have been sick for the last 10 days or so... just getting over this bug
grega -- Choosing the right keywords is the most important decision you have to make when designing or optimizing a website
grega -- you keywords MUST focus on the content of each page in order to gain top ranking in the SE's
grega -- by the way... if you have a question along the way just type a '?' and I will ask for your question... ok?
grega -- if you are working with a new web... it makes is easier to have the key phrases match the content of the page
grega -- make a list of key phrases that will work with the content of the page
grega -- you can start with a list of 20- 50 key phrases and you will waddle them down later
grega -- also include synonyms for the industry or product type your content will have
grega -- think about your audience... who will be, you hope, stopping by your page
grega -- ask yourself if you were one of these people what would you type into the SE to find a company like the one your representing
grega -- if you can ask other people, circle of friends... what they would search for
grega -- consider if you need to have it be regional... or just for a state
grega -- or if the whole USA or world is your market
grega -- after you get your list of key phrase... we are talking 2, 3 and 4 word phrases... now is the time you may want to use one of the keyword analyzers that are available
grega -- if you don’t have one... use the search engines and see what competition you have for each of the key phrases
katja -- do you suggest wordtracker?
grega -- you may want to include misspellings of some of you words
grega -- that is one tool to use katja
grega -- by using the SE's and the tools available to you will want to waddle your list down to 5- 10 key phrases per page
grega -- of coarse you will optimize each page separately
grega -- ok... any questions on making a list and choosing your key phrases?
grega -- hi beth
beth -- Hi
grega -- ok... let’s move on...
grega -- now you have a list of key phrases that you will use for the page you’re designing or optimizing for a client... or maybe for yourself...
grega -- now... what do we do with them?
grega -- you want as many key phrases in the title/heading of your page
grega -- and the sub heading
grega -- and as the content goes, you can use them throughout the page
grega -- but most important to use them in the title/heading and the sub headings
grega -- as for the meta tags...
grega -- put as many as you can in the title tag
grega -- of coarse list them in the keyword tag and use them in the description tag
grega -- next if you are using graphics/pics on the page... you can put a description using the key phrases in the alt tag of each of the jpg/gifs
grega -- also in any style tags that you may want to use
grega -- again... remember if you are geographic specific you will want to use those specific area in you title, description and keyword tags as well
grega -- any questions up to now?
grega -- hi burg
burgwald -- hi
beth -- I have a question
grega -- yes beth
katja --?
beth -- Is it true that certain search engines such as Google penalize you for having too many words in the title and description?
grega -- I have not heard that there is a penalty for 'too' many words
grega -- they just won’t list them past what their limit is
beth -- ok more that it is frowned upon
grega -- yes
grega -- katja... your question
katja -- Let's say you get a website to promote for a client- the website is fairly well ranked in a few search phrases but those keywords are not the best ones (not that many searches are done for them). How would you go about it- slowly the search phrases?
katja -- would you slowly substitute the keywords or make a more radical change- throw them out and replace them?
grega -- I would look at the content of the site... and work with the content to add and subtract paragraphs, work with the title and headings of the page and rework the page using the new keyphrases as well as leaving the old ones in place
grega -- then once you have established the 'new' key phrases, make the decision about removing the old one... you may want to leave them depending on several factors
grega -- hi bond
grega -- does that answer your question katja?
katja -- yes, thanks
grega -- you’re welcome
grega -- any other questions?
bond4870 -- Hi Everyone I am new to the scene.
bond4870 --? just off the topic a little I saw yesterday "Aname"
bond4870 -- stead of using www. in address use just a keyword which can be purchased. do you know what this is all about? thanks
grega -- ok then... if there are no other questions I would like to thank all of you for stopping by... if you think of anything b4 next months keyword chat you can email me at webguy1
grega -- haven’t heard of that bond... sorry
bond4870 -- I will email you the details etc seeing I came a bit late.
grega -- you all have a good night and take care...
