11:04:24 Amy This is andiscussion regarding Yahoo/Google/Inktomi
11:05:35 Amy Do we have any questions to start with?
11:06:18 burke Is inktomi going to still have the pay per inclusion still like Lycos?
11:06:48 Amy Inktomi now has the paid inclusion and we have a lot of success on it.
11:06:58 Amy Are you referring in the future?
11:07:20 burke You figure no changes then, huh
11:07:29 burke yes
11:08:23 Amy personally, no changes should occur...if people are happily paying now, why should they cut their revenue stream, what do you think?
11:08:55 burke exactly yes
11:09:18 Amy While Overture is trying to buy out the "left over" engines, there may be only a few to work with anyway...
11:09:45 burke yes not many left that's for sure
11:10:23 Amy Overture model has been proven such a great success, more engines may follow and most had incorporated some type of PPC already.
11:11:28 Amy MSN just renewed Inktomi for few more years.
11:11:52 burke you think the increase to $0.10 will hurt Overture any ?
11:12:31 Amy no, they will still be strong, I suppose. Sites are desperate to get leads and traffic and
this is the shortcut to success.
11:12:51 Amy Do you do a lot of PPC for your sites or your clients?
11:13:30 burke not much any more no, kind of trying to do more with optimization work.
11:13:53 Amy GOOD!
11:14:26 burke you hear any news on Google/Blogger
11:14:46 burke not to change the topic
11:14:46 Amy Have not looked into it, how about you?
11:15:06 burke looked in forums a bit but nothing great
11:15:39 Amy Feel free to discuss other SEO tactics, I don't mind, the purpose is to share successful ideas, we don't have a full house as last month11:16:43 web_chameleon {enters}
11:16:46 Amy How's ODP working for you? Do you find ODP helps you tremendously in Google rankings?
11:17:46 burke I'm still trying to get listed :-(
11:18:12 burke frustrating.
11:18:27 Amy For the last few sites, I have utilized the forum and it helped tremendously, the editors got
back to me on the SAME day, amazing.
11:18:34 web_chameleon I've heard there is an awful lot of intrigue in getting listed at times on ODP
11:19:02 web_chameleon Amy, are you saying that it can boost you for Google?
11:19:19 Amy DON'T attempt to resubmit, it won't speed up the process.
11:19:40 Amy It did for our sites, maybe with the link pop that Google places on ODP.
11:20:35 Amy Submit to regional if you can and if resubmission occurs, your previous submission will be pushed down to the new submission date and delay review.
11:20:55 Amy how about you, does ODP help in Google?
11:21:14 web_chameleon I will try that. I have some realtor clients, as the other's here have heard me say 1,000x ...
11:21:31 web_chameleon and I have had difficulties getting listed, I believe it is the reviewers
11:21:56 web_chameleon I could be wrong, but john a said that could be a real possibility
11:23:16 Amy yes, the editors can be one of the issues, you can go higher up and email or post in the forum. There has to be a way to get in fairly.
11:24:18 Amy I have dealt with that before...frustrating... wait till one day ODP says, let's charge it.
11:24:19 web_chameleon he mentioned that, too , but it has been over 2 yrs, I will give the usual way a try again
11:25:08 Amy My longest site to get listed was 1.5 years, and finally it did go in after lots of resubmission,
discussion, emailing to editors...
11:26:18 web_chameleon that's encouraging, I think :-)
11:26:51 Amy Have you read the new Michael Campbell's book that Robin recommended in the last broadcast email?
11:27:17 web_chameleon nothing but net?
11:27:29 Amy Revenge of the Mininet
11:28:04 web_chameleon oh, I saw an excerpt and realized I have been doing that, but not in quite the
correct fashion
11:28:14 web_chameleon have you tried it?
11:28:39 Amy yes, more or less in the same fashion as well, bought that just to see what he has to say.
11:29:15 web_chameleon I have an inktomi question
11:29:33 burke What's the book like Amy ?
11:30:34 Amy It has a 51 pages and it demonstrates his linking strategy using mini sites
11:30:40 Amy yes, inktomi...
11:30:50 web_chameleon Is MSN the main site you would suggest to first submit to get into Inktomi and does it only take one inktomi related site to get listed throughout?
11:33:03 Amy We usually use Inktomi paid inclusion
11:33:40 Amy we also submit to another site to get listed as well
11:33:47 Amy mainly for spidering
11:34:04 web_chameleon where is the Inktomi paid inclusion?
11:34:59 Amy www.positiontech.com - Search
Submit
11:35:33 web_chameleon you're kidding me, Amy, I have never heard of this, have I really been missing something here?
11:35:53 Amy We have used this for probably more than 2 years.
11:36:14 Amy since it's started
11:36:17 web_chameleon is there a tiered cost or a one-time fee?
11:36:36 Amy check it out, so far, worth it. One-time fee per URL per year
11:36:51 Amy $39 first URL and $25 subsequent URLs
11:37:12 Amy can substitute same domain URLs during your optimization process
11:37:29 web_chameleon it gets you listed, but of course you still have to earn a top 10 position, right?
11:37:34 Amy this will get you in MSN in a short time
11:37:53 Amy yes, top rankings all require hard work, unless PPC
11:38:35 web_chameleon so what is the advantage to the pay submit?
11:38:36 Amy Inktomi's algorithm is the easiest to work with, not like Google
11:39:17 Amy get listed within 72 hours guaranteed and refresh every 72 hours, you have a log access to track how many clicks through your submitted URL
11:39:53 web_chameleon I can see the value in that
11:40:17 labelsexpress I realize I came in toward the end but is yahoo pulling results from inktomi now or how soon till Google's listings will no longer be reflected in yahoo?
11:40:24 web_chameleon what software do you use to get your sites algorithms in line with Inktomi?
11:42:14 Amy Yahoo still with Google at this time
11:42:46 Amy You will hear updates everywhere if there is a change detected. I am sure Robin will be one
of the first to know.
11:43:12 Amy A good software that's excellent and extremely helpful is SE optimizer from ACWS, have you tried that?
11:43:44 web_chameleon SE optimizer? GSO or something like that?
11:43:46 labelsexpress is there a way to determine where you will place in yahoo once the change is made?
11:43:55 Amy Inktomi's algorithm - apply all your basic principles first, you should be able to make it
11:44:30 Amy http://www.se-optimizer.com/search-engine.html
11:45:02 Amy No one can predict at this time until real results came out.
11:45:39 Amy Algorithm is rather complicated, we have to analyze the search results in order to know how
to beat your competitors
11:46:28 web_chameleon I use wpg2
11:46:44 Amy That's works the same way, right?
11:46:49 web_chameleon I have heard to optimize first for msn
11:47:04 web_chameleon yes, it does
11:47:34 Amy For MSN, we use Looksmart directory first to deal with web directories because that is much easier to manipulate the rankings
11:47:35 web_chameleon I'm finding the people in the business for awhile use an element of one and something from another, so I always ask what tools they use
11:48:14 Amy that's great
11:50:13 Amy any other questions that you can think about?
11:50:19 labelsexpress Is it still true that we should not use WPG2 with Google even late at night for fear of
getting banned?
11:50:35 web_chameleon I just took a look at Looksmart and I noticed that they have an inclusion fee plus a ppc, am I looking at the right place?
11:50:57 web_chameleon I thought it was a simple $199?
11:51:16 Amy web chameleon (such a cool name) any feedback? I have not used that before.
11:51:32 web_chameleon label, I just took the advanced course at ACWS in Orlando, and the developer of WPG2 was there...
11:52:05 web_chameleon he said there is absolutely no reason why this should occur, but these rumors get started
11:52:20 web_chameleon it all amounts to submission preferences or beliefs
11:52:42 web_chameleon and they are very careful to be certain they are not offending the SE
11:52:53 web_chameleon Amy, what about the Looksmart submission?
11:53:06 Amy have you done that before?
11:53:17 Amy so far so good for our clients.
11:53:59 web_chameleon I mentioned above that I just went there and it looked like a fee then a ppc?
11:54:19 web_chameleon am I at the right spot as I thought it was a 1x $199?
11:54:49 Amy yes, $49 per listing, $45 deposit (which will be for your initial PPC run), $0.15 per click -
minimum $15 per month or 100 clicks per month
11:55:43 Amy Affordable in some sense.
11:56:01 web_chameleon and how long do you use this for? to get your sites started or do you stay with it?
11:56:17 web_chameleon and how do you move up in the listings?
11:56:25 Amy We stay with it because MSN still a crucial engine that we have to deal with
11:56:56 Amy Study the listings first based on the keywords you are trying to optimize and manipulate that
through the title and description
11:57:38 Amy They do allow you to put in 10 keywords in the submission and hopefully they will bring up your site when people use those keywords, but no guarantee.
11:58:21 web_chameleon yeow, it would seem overture is still the best game.
11:58:22 Amy We do spend a lot of time researching prior to the submission as you submit to any directories
11:58:41 web_chameleon however, your listings show throughout all the inktomi engines or MSN or what?
11:59:17 Amy Overture PPC costs will only increase...if you go to Looksmart, you will see other partners that LS display results to.
11:59:59 web_chameleon so the cost won't go up, but you can't move up in ranking? is there a popularity thing?
12:01:34 Amy MSN - we found that if you submit correctly, once you land on the top, it does not drop.
12:02:02 labelsexpress I can tell you as far as Looksmart, as much as I hate paying them, we receive about 50% of our orders from msn as a result of Looksmart
12:02:20 Amy I agree
12:03:00 web_chameleon this is good stuff to know ... thanks
12:03:08 Amy Thank you for coming!! :) I hope this session helps in your efforts
12:03:26 web_chameleon labels, nice site!
12:03:39 web_chameleon like the humanitarian aspect
12:04:49 Amy You are welcome!! Hope to see you all next time. Questions, please feel free to email me at amym
