Organic Structure For Search Engine Ranking Optimization

by Terry G. Plank

Use smaller pages with high emphasis on keywords throughout all the pages. Emphasize different keywords on different pages. Keywords should be in the following areas with the most important keywords first:

  • <Title>
  • <META NAME="DESCRIPTION">
  • <META NAME="KEYWORD">
  • headline tags (H1, H2, etc.)
  • link tags, such as: http://yourcompany.com/otherpage.htm
  • body of the page itself. Since some search engines retrieve the first few lines of your Web page to describe your site in the search results, be sure to put a number of important keywords in the first few lines of your introductory text.
  • ALT tags. Web designers use this tag to describe the contents of a picture that hasn't loaded yet.
  • <!--insert comments here> comments tags
  • <INPUT TYPE="HIDDEN" NAME="HIDDEN" VALUE="include list of keywords here"> hidden tag
  • in the URL or site address (this is where you add your keyword phrase to the actual URL)

Have a keyword description sentence at the beginning of the body of text for each page that readers see. Attract visitors with this sentence, but always place the most important keywords first. Ask yourself:

  • Is your title/description compelling?
  • Is it interesting?
  • Will it make someone curious to learn more?
  • Would I read it and want to visit the site?
  • Does it include time and money?
  • Does it solve a problem?
  • Does it suggest that it solves that problem quickly?
  • Does it show a price? (only emphasize price if yours is very effective)

Accept that people don't start off reading a Web page, they scan it until they are interested. Therefore, use

  • Minimal text on the first pages. Draw them in deeper.
  • Simple graphics and bullet lists to expose lots of information without wasted words.
  • Quickloading graphics,
  • Clean and clear navigation.

All pages must contribute to the principal objectives for the site. For example, if you are selling a product, always provide a way to see and order it.

If you are selling a product or service, provide secure online transactions. People prefer it!
